This issue featured William Tucker's cover story on New York Governor George Pataki's efforts to save New York from liberalism. The magazine also examined books on mid-century American history and Communist upbringing, while addressing contemporary political debates including Ross Perot's potential participation in the 1996 presidential debates and Bob Dole's equivocal tax-cut positions. The issue reflected the conservative magazine's skepticism toward Perot's candidacy and its critique of both Democratic liberalism and Republican inconsistency on core economic issues.
