Although conservative Democrats like Jim Webb have handed Congress to the Democrats, many of them want nothing to do with Obama and think he is likely to lose in November. When NPR asked Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland if he was auditioning to be Obama's VP, the Hillary supporter remarked, "Absolutely not. If drafted I will not run, nominated I will not accept and if elected I will not serve. So, I don't know how more crystal clear I can be." Guess Obama won't be counting on too much help from Strickland in winning the battleground state. The point is further illustrated by recent comments from Gov. Schweitzer of Montana, a pro-gun, straight-shooting Democrat. Schweitzer is a superdelegate, but pledged his support to Sen. Obama only after Obama had won Montana and his party's nomination. Still, back in April, Gov. Schweitzer said John McCain will win Montana and members of his own party who think otherwise are deluding themselves. He put Obama's chances at the White House at 50-50.
