A not-disinterested observer writes in to point out that the Gainesville Sun and Orlando Sentinel both base their endorsements of John McCain on the Arizona senator's ... least conservative positions. McCain's challenge is to expand the number of conservative Republicans who support his candidacy. Now, I happen to think this will happen anyway as some of his rivals drop out of the race. But media emphasis on those positions which make McCain uniquely suited among Republicans to win the votes of independents and Democrats in the general election probably won't help him any among the "very conservative" who vote in GOP primaries.
