Good news for school-choice supporters. Ted Forstmann, founder of the Children's Scholarship Fund, is launching the Campaign for America's Children, a $ 20 million national ad campaign focusing attention on "the need to put parents in charge of their children's education," meaning a boost to competition among schools and a blow to the teachers' unions. The non-partisan coalition, chaired by William Bennett and Joseph Califano, will emphasize the freedom of choice all parents deserve when it comes to schools. Campaign executive director Dan Schnur says the ads will stress, "Who should be in charge of a child's education?" To date, the Children's Scholarship Fund has provided more than 40,000 scholarships for underprivileged children across the country.
