Defying polls and media hype, Hillary Clinton has eked out a win in the New Hampshire primary. Chalk it up to girl power, union households, and Catholics, as well as New Hampshire Democrats / Democratic-leaning independents seeing Clinton as the best potential commander in chief and the Democratic candidate who "cares about people" the most. In addition, don't forget the John Edwards / Bill Richardson spoiler effect. Those two candidates combined received 22 percent of the vote - only a small portion of which, had it gone to Obama, would have produced a dramatically different result. Clinton will "win" next week's uncontested Michigan primary (in which no delegates will be rewarded), giving her added momentum before Nevada on Saturday, 19 January. The Democratic contest, like the Republican, seems open, but now that Clinton has won a victory it is likely the Democratic establishment will rest easy. The Restoration proceeds according to plan.
