With less than two weeks to go until the critical Indiana primary, not a single public poll of the presidential contest has been released. But Politico's Shane Goldmacher reports that two private polls show Trump and Cruz tied, while a third poll showed Trump leading Cruz:

Three different groups, not affiliated with the presidential campaigns, that have surveyed the state recently provided results to POLITICO on condition that they be shared anonymously. One survey, completed on April 12, had Ted Cruz and Donald Trump in a statistical tie: 32 percent to 32 percent, with John Kasich, governor of neighboring Ohio, a distant third, with 14 percent. A second survey also had Trump and Cruz tied, but that was a change from three weeks earlier, when Cruz had led outside the margin of error. A third survey, from last week, had Trump ahead of Cruz, outside the margin of error.

Trump is expected to romp in five East Coast contests next week, but if he can turn things around in Indiana the following week the nomination will remain up for grabs. The polls showing Kasich polling a distant third should encourage Indiana Republicans opposed to Trump to rally behind Cruz. All eyes are watching Indiana governor Mike Pence, who has not yet made an endorsement. The governor is holding meetings with each of the three remaining presidential candidates.
