After causing Senate Democrats reportedly to drop the public option and the Medicare buy-in, Sen. Lieberman released a statement today saying he senses that "we are now taking significant steps forward to obtain 60 votes on the Senate floor." Meanwhile, President Obama plans to meet with Senate Democrats again today in order to cajole them to vote for his top priority. "The deal they had is no longer operative," a White House official tells Sheryl Gay Stohlberg. Which means that Lieberman and Ben Nelson likely will dictate the terms of a new deal.
