From the Associated Press write up of Joe Lieberman's endorsement of John McCain: "'Political party is important, but it's not more important than what's good for the country and it's not more important than friendship,' Lieberman said." Lieberman's endorsement of McCain adds to the emerging storyline of the Arizona senator's resurgence in New Hampshire. It probably won't make McCain any new friends on the right, but those voters who dislike McCain because of his conservative heresies on certain issues aren't going to vote for him anyway. Surely the New Hampshire independents who want to change the way Washington works - the same folks who helped McCain score his upset win in 2000 - will look positively on this endorsement, however. A coda: It was in this editorial, back in early November, that Bill Kristol first raised the possibility of a McCain-Lieberman ticket.
