Greg Sargent reports that today Howard Dean will call upon the Senate to kill the Reid bill now that it no longer includes a public option or Medicare buy-in. Dean follows lefty Internet guru Kos, who wrote on his Twitter feed last night: "Insurance companies win. Time to kill this monstrosity coming out of the Senate." Nevertheless, it's pretty hard to see liberal outrage translating into liberal Democratic votes against a health care bill. As Byron York points out, Democrats have talked themselves into a corner. Passing health care legislation has become an end in itself. Most likely Democrats will listen to their inner Paul Krugman, who "grudgingly" agrees with the idea that Congress "should just pass the thing and try to fix it later." Of course, there's always Roland Burris. The unelected, unaccountable liberal senator from Illinois could go rogue and scuttle the bill. And he holds Barack Obama's old Senate seat. Wouldn't that be ironic.
