My friends - all three of them! - are writing in from all over today. Here's another, reacting to McCain's latest endorsement: "Although predictably overlooked by the mainstream media, Senator Tom Coburn - Republican of Oklahoma - just came out to endorse John McCain for president this morning. Although Coburn is a fairly peripheral figure in the imagination of the Washington press corps, he's arguably one of the purest, most hard-core social conservatives in the Senate today. In fact, there's arguably no one more to the right in the Republican caucus. "I wonder, therefore, whether the question might be raised, whether Tom Coburn might just prove to be the Joe Lieberman of South Carolina? "Just as Lieberman seems to have given an important bump to McCain among wavering independents (as well as war-on-terror Republicans) in the Granite State primary, Coburn could potentially provide the crucial bridge that McCain needs right now to values voters and social conservatives in the Palmetto State - in particular, as Coburn goes out on conservative radio to vouch for McCain's pro-life credentials (in contrast with Romney) and his fiscal conservatism (in contrast with Huckabee). More than anyone else, Coburn - if used right - could make the compelling and critical case to South Carolina conservatives that McCain - despite his occasional heresies - is 'one of us,' not to mention the GOP's best bet for defeating a Democrat in November."
