Here's the program:
Reforming the Pentagon Deficit and Defense Hawks Needed Debate over defense sequestration cuts in Washington has become ritualized and entrenched, making another round of sequester cuts likely. In light of our $17 trillion debt, "deficit hawks" emphasize the need for DoD to contribute to spending reform. At the same time, in a dangerous world of evolving threats, "defense hawks" emphasize the need to maintain the most powerful and technologically advanced military in the world. Both are correct; so, how can these two positions be reconciled? Why must being a deficit hawk and a defense hawk be mutually exclusive? Can arbitrary and damaging sequester cuts be replaced with targeted DoD spending reforms that address spending concerns and maintain military might? If so, how? Join Concerned Veterans for America, the Weekly Standard and a slate of top-notch legislators and policy experts on September 18th for a policy and political discussion about the prospects of reforming the way the Pentagon spends money—cutting the fat in order to spare the muscle.
