Via this New York Observer piece, here's Empire State congressman Charles Rangel on Mayor Giuliani's chances of winning the Republican nomination:

'It's totally unbelievable,' said Charles Rangel, the dean of the New York Congressional delegation and a longtime adversary of Mr. Giuliani. 'I refuse to believe that this could possibly happen to our country. I have too much confidence in our country to believe that this could really happen.'

What Democrats do not seem to understand is that the more they gab about how much they hate hizzoner, the easier it is for Giuliani to communicate to conservative Republicans that he is an ally of the conservative movement. If liberals want to sink Giuliani's chances of winning the nomination, then they only should say nice things about him. Of course, maybe they don't know their own interests.
