In the great tradition of its middle column stories, this morning's Wall Street Journal features a hilarious tale out of the Pentagon involving the purported portrait of Ensign Chuck Hord, "Lost at Sea 1908." Until recently the framed picture of the dashing young Annapolis grad was hanging in the C ring of the Department of Defense. Except Ensign Hord wasn't lost at sea in 1908. In fact, the man, actually known as Tuck Hord ("Chuck" was a typo introduced by the engraver), is a retired captain currently living in Virginia. His portrait was a sort of gag gift that found its way into parties and offices until landing in the C ring, all with the help of his fellow officers, including British and Canadian liaisons. Definitely worth reading in its entirety.
