Barack Obama backed out of his public-financing commitment, simply to ensure he had more money to spend, but now it looks like he's getting his just deserts: It turns out he won't have more money after all. As a result, he has to hold dozens more fundraisers between now and election day, which both takes time from campaigning and damages his image. And on top of that, he now has to make explicit something he was only giving a nod-and-wink to before: he wants George Soros and the labor unions to trash John McCain and Sarah Palin in order to save him from his own mistakes.
