I thought this exchange sums up pretty nicely what the new J Street lobbying effort will look like. We have an angry leftist, Daniel Levy, whose name appears frequently at the J Street website, berating an Israeli about settlement construction, checkpoints, and occupation, as if most Israelis wouldn't love to pull out of the West Bank, and as if Levy certainly knows better than any Israeli what's in his own best interest. Of course, it's a bit hard to reconcile what Levy says with the reality of Gaza, where settlements were removed and the occupation ended with the result that a terrorist organization took over and the rocket fire commenced. The good news is that even if Obama wins the election in November, Americans need not worry about the security of Israel. As Obama says, "no one's been a more stalwart ally of Israel" than he, and "Groups like AIPAC would confirm that." But imagine how much easier we could all sleep if he were to get the J Street seal of approval. It'd be almost as reassuring as having Rev. Wright vouch for his Zionist credentials.
