This First Read post offers a glimpse of John McCain's many charms:
On the Straight Talk Express yesterday, McCain interrupted his characteristically candid gaggle with the traveling press with an unusual exclamation. "I'm heartbroken. HEARTBROKEN!" he said, pointing at a television screen mounted on the wall of the bus. Reporters swiveled in their seats to see what news story on MSNBC had so dismayed the senator. The failure of a major bipartisan bill in the Senate? Violence against monks in Burma? Nope. Jack Bauer's in jail. "Sutherland arrested," read the cable news chyron. McCain shook his head as he rehashed the news that Kiefer Sutherland, the star of the hit action series "24," will do jail time for a DUI arrest. "My hero, Jack Bauer!" McCain said with mock incredulity.
Of course, one should note that McCain and Bauer have significantly different opinions on the use of torture during interrogations. It's also important, though, to recognize that McCain's sense of humor is part of his winning personality. As unlikely as his nomination may seem at the moment, no one should count him out of this race.
