Is he going to prosecute Bush administration officials for war crimes? Depends on what answer you want to hear:
What I would want to do is to have my Justice Department and my Attorney General immediately review the information that's already there and to find out are there inquiries that need to be pursued. I can't prejudge that because we don't have access to all the material right now. I think that you are right, if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated. You're also right that I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt because I think we've got too many problems we've got to solve. So this is an area where I would want to exercise judgment...
Sounds like a no, but he's leaving the door open and giving Hope to those who fantasize about waterboarding the president. There is no clear position here, and it makes you wonder just how much of what Obama says is straight up pandering. Will he pull U.S. troops out of Iraq or will he keep a sizable "strike force" in the country? Nobody knows, he could be pandering to the center with the talk of a strike force, he could be pandering to the left with talk of a pullout. Is Obama for free trade or against it? He has two answers, one for wealthy San Francisco liberals and another for poor white folks in Pennsylvania. Which is it? Nobody knows.
