A friend jokes:
Clearly, Obama's going to drop out of the race. I give him 48 hours to get his affairs in order, give back all that money, and then he's gone. He's 'dead in the water' - that's my new phrase. McCain has a ten to one chance of being the new president. Clearly.
Nearly every reporter, pundit, and pollster out there thought Obama had a lock on New Hampshire and that Clinton's days were numbered. It was an epidemic suggestion - an incorrect notion that spreads like wildfire among a population. Plus there were faulty polls to back it up. Now there's a real race - but will Clinton's aura of "inevitability" return? Will the old epidemic suggestion be replaced by a new one, the idea that Clinton has resumed her unstoppable march to the presidency?
