Cut, Cap, Balance Act Passes House 230 to 194

The cut, cap, balance plan passed the House of Representatives Tuesday night on a largely party-line vote 230 to 194.

Per Andrew Stiles, five Democrats voted for the bill (Boren, Cooper, Matheson, McIntyre and Schuler), and nine Republicans (Bachmann, Broun, Canseco, DesJarlais, Griffith, Walter Jones, Mack, Paul and Rohrabacher) voted against it.

The bill would cut 2012 spending $169 billion below Obama's budget ($111 billion below 2011 spending), cap spending at 19.9 percent of GDP within a decade, and authorize an increase in the debt limit upon the passage of a balanced budget constitutional amendment (that establishes 2/3 supermajority requirement to raise taxes) by Congress.

Obama has pledged to veto the bill should it somehow make its way past Harry Reid.
