An e-mailer makes a good point regarding my "Obama’s Condescension" post, which commented on Obama’s statement: "Here's my assessment of not just the vote in Massachusetts, but the mood around the country: the same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office.”
“Yes, but there is something even creepier about the President's comment to George Stephanopoulos. Even when Obama is directly repudiated, when his policies are thoroughly rejected (and not so much by the GOP but by his own constituency), all he can bring himself to say is that the winning candidate is an Obama copycat. Now that goes beyond condescension. There is a narcissism run amok in that....According to Obama's solipsistic view of matters, Brown only beat Obama because Brown was impersonating Obama.”
Not to overdo the armchair psychoanalysis, but I wonder if there isn’t a good deal of truth in this.
