Hilda Solis, in addition to violating House ethics rules by serving as the treasurer of an organization that was actively engaged in lobbying her fellow legislators, has now had her nomination held up by (what else?) tax problems. USA Today reports:

Solis and [her husband] Sayyad were unaware of the liens until USA TODAY asked about them Tuesday, White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said. He said Sayyad paid about $6,400 to Los Angeles County on Wednesday to settle the liens, but he plans to appeal. Vietor said Sayyad believes he had already paid all of his taxes in full. He said Solis had no reason to know of the liens because her husband's business is a sole proprietorship.

I'm with Vietor on this. We can't possibly expect a woman to understand the details of her husband's business dealings, or the intricacies of the tax code. Women should be kept in the dark about such matters for their own sake and allowed to peacefully tend to their wifely duties. If Solis had known about her husbands tax evasion, she might have fainted or worse.
