Charles Krauthammer and others have noted the odd grandiosity of Obama's creation of a miniature Greek temple for the backdrop of his acceptance speech tomorrow. But it seems to me that what Obama is likely trying to do is not suggest an Olympian setting, but rather to invoke the Lincoln Memorial, putting himself in MLK's place since we're marking the anniversary of the "I Have a Dream Speech." This would be perfectly in keeping with Obama's modus operandi, which is to consistently invoke the words or symbols of other leaders instead of creating his own.
