Bob Shrum, the Democratic campaign strategist, is known for two things mainly--his long losing streak in presidential races, including such highlights as McGovern '72, Kennedy '80, and Kerry '04--and the trademark themes of almost every one of these races, "I'll fight for you" and "I'm on your side." We heard a lot of that from McCain tonight. It would be hilariously ironic if the presidential election Shrum finally "wins" is McCain over Obama.
